I Am Not Helpless

This post is about being able to look back on this month and realize it for what it is. This month has changed me. Not only am I know knowledgable but I am more passionate and driven than ever before. I no longer feel helpless and just sitting idly by hoping for someone to make the right choices. I am now, for what may be the first time in my life willing to fight. Don't get me wrong, I thought I was fighting before but I was simply speaking up. I'd attend a Cube of Truth here and host a tabling there. If there was something I did not like I may or may not say that depending on if I thought "that big of a deal." Now I am ready to fight, I am ready to piss some people off and I don't care how long my fight takes I will not stop until I achieve my goal. My first wool protest following the campus rep summit #never21 This new me started with the PETA Campus Rep Summit July 26th. The summit is to teach us to be better animal rights activist on our campus. We are...

Veganism: Less About Food, More About Everything Else

Introduction Veganism has risen substantially since 2014 and has gone more mainstream than ever. I am an 18 years old college student who has been vegan for a year and a half. During that time, I have begun working for PETA and Challenge 22+ as well as becoming a vegan mentor . During the time that I have been vegan I have learned so much not only about food but also about how every action I take effects someone else either negatively or positively. Veganism is a lifestyle and a movement where millions of people make the decisions to minimize the negative impact they inflict on the world and maximize the positive impact that they leave on the world. Vegan vs. plant based According to google vegan is “a person who does not eat or use animal products” and according to Wikipedia veganism is “the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals.” In both definitions, they put a heavy...

Kindness, Love, and Respect

Let's talk for a minute. I have a little problem with the fact that we yell and scream and want prison time when someone kills a dog or cat but we find absolutely nothing wrong with the death of billions of animals. We enslave, torture, rape and murder cows, pigs, chickens, sheep but the moment a dog gets injured we want someone's head. It is like the white guy that got arrested and shouted out "you're treating me like a black person." We put dogs and cats on a pedestal and turn a blind eye to the suffering of others. It is simple if we can not treat the most innocent of beings with kindness, love, and respect how can we ever treat each other with kindness, love, and respect? These animals that have never  done a thing to us is being treated in the worth possible way! Let's talk about the cow as a human. We take the women and rape her so that she can produce more slaves. We take her babies so that they cant drink her milk. We take her milk. We either kill th...

What Being a Black, Vegan, American Means To Me

I am a year old 18 born and raised African American. I am a sophomore at a university in Virginia and I am most definitely vegan. America is the land of the free and home of the home... at least that is what we are told. I see many brave men and women within America fighting for many different causes and in many different ways theoretically, they are "free" to do that. But what happens when people no longer feel free, what happens when people are scared of the very organizations that are supposed to protect us, what happens when people no longer just consider themselves as deserving of freedom?    Being black in America means being scared. It means never being free. Racism in America is something white people like to pretend does not exist unless it benefits them politically and many are racist and do not even know they are racist. If you are trying to figure out if you are racist, I am going to help you out. If you find yourself saying, thinking or doing any...

Vegan dog??

Hello, as you know I am vegan! As you may not have known, my dog is not vegan. I have spent a very large amount of time researching veganism for dogs and have come to the conclusion that my dog, Mann, can thrive on a vegan diet. Since then I began slowly incorporating more vegan home-cooked meals in my babies diet. He seems to truly love it! It has more energy to run around the house like he lost ALL of his mind and he gobbles up the food pretty quickly. I have found that my dog does not like cucumbers, Granny Smith apples, or spinach and so far his favorite thing seems to be sweet peppers. This comes with a lot of trial and error to figure out what foods he likes and what foods he does not like. One of the things Mann does is if he doesn't like something he will pick it out of the food and put it on the ground. On one hand, I guess I should be grateful that he doesn't just decide not to eat any of the food but on the other hand now I have blackberry stains on my f...

Cold Pressed Organic Juice 7-Eleven

Every so often, I walk into a 7-Eleven looking for breakfast and every time I do I search for almond milk. Saturday was one of those days but I was shook when I came across Cold Pressed Organic Juice. I was really on the move Saturday and I needed a quick breakfast. usually, I get fruit from 7-Eleven and MAYBE some almond milk when I'm in a breakfast rush. I wasn't quite sure how this juice was going to taste but since it was 2 for $5 I knew I was going to drink the whole thing💸! They had different flavors and each flavor had the fruits and veggies on the front and the amount of each fruit and veggie on the side. The only ingredients were the fruits and veggies making it so much better😍. I drank the green juice for breakfast that Saturday and it definitely felt like I just had a whole meal 😂. The next day, I decided to have the berry one and some crackers and hummus. I ended up eating 2 crackers and hummus and drinking the whole juice at around 8am. I ...

Naomi Vegan "Meets" review

I must say... I could never imagine this food being as good as it is. I have been wanting some good soul food for a hot minute. a friend of mine walked up to me one day and said "you have to try this it is amazing" (she's a member of VegODU as well) so I tried it. IT WAS AMAZING!! immediately I thought that this would be an amazing meal to have during an event hosted by VegODU. When she told me that it was from Naomi Vegan "Meets"  I realized that I had seen her page pop up on my Facebook many times. it was one of those things where I said "I wanna try this" but never did because I didn't want to spend my money and it not taste good. When I ordered my food I got the Naomi's Vegan Chic'n, mac and cheese, and candied yams. Did I mention Delivery??? Yes! She delivered all the way to Norfolk, VA from Newport News, VA! oviously there was a little wait but this isn't fast food. This isn't fan food. This is SOUL FOOD!!! Aside from the d...
